CS5375 2 CH1 INTRODUCTION Computer System Five components: input, output , memory, data path (registers, internal bus), control. Computer Organization -- functional components are selected and interconnected to form a computer system . Computer Architecture – structure and behavior as seen by the user. Performance specifications for various components are developed. Component interconnection is defined. Instruction formats and addressing modes are defined.

CS5375 3 Implementation A system is implemented using hardware (CPU,  memory, hardwired control), software (operating  systems, language design, etc.,) and firmware components (control units, special purpose  units, etc.) Other important components: Communications  organization of components, interconnection network,  protocols, interface design, etc.
