East-West Adam Brazier UN 1002 Section F The form of government in which the political authority exercises absolute and centralized control over all aspects of life, the individual is subordinated to the state, and opposing political and cultural expression is suppressed. A totalitarian state can be summed up using the first sentence. After watching the film East-West it gave me a more visual view of life in a totalitarian state. Near the beginning of the film when the people are disembarking the ship the guards are splitting them up and giving certain suspicious persons a closed room interview. Basically if the guards say any small sign what so ever of someone not being a true Russian then off they went to get an interview with a little forceful

After the family of the husband, wife and son got a ride to there new home all the current residents basically didn’t want to be a part of them since the wife was French, a non-Russian to their eyes. Later in the film after the family has been there awhile the owner of the apartments was found signing in French with the wife and later that night she was dragged away by the Russian secret police. With the definition at the beginning stating opposing political and cultural expression is suppressed I see that is very true in this film. With the women being dragged away by the police it states a clear suppression by the government....
