October 4, 2007 Proportion/Size Proportion: size relationship, relation between two ratios, most people want their design to be in proportion, more pleasing (one thing is not way bigger than something else), best diagram is Da Vinci’s Vitruvian Man (man in the circle), looks at the rest of the natural world and its proportions, carry it over into design Dynamic symmetry: create a rectangle using the Golden Section and divide it into the square and smaller rectangle – create diagonals relating to the shapes Golden Mean/Golden Section: Line A has the same relation to Line B as Line B has to Line A + Line B; proportion of side A to side B is the same as proportion of side B to sides A+B Le Corbusier: thinks proportion is the most important aspect of design, wrote a book The Modulor-human proportions, golden section, regulating lines- intersecting diagonals with right angle relationships, said he used The Modular to design a building but it doesn’t quite add up
