Problem 1 (25 points). The graph and data on the attached sheet shows a set of data (x,y) that represents some real physical measurements where y is expected to depend on x. In addition to the actual data, fits from a regression analysis are provided. Note, both fits are two different functional equations and the error squared is given for each fit. a. Strictly based on just looking at the results of the regression analysis, which fit is “best” and state why you choose that fit. FIT ___ is best because… b. Looking at this data as an engineer, discuss your impressions or concerns about the data, and the advantages or disadvantages of one fit over the other. c. What kind of information or data would you ask for to make a better informed decision about predicting any trends of the data y(x)? d. Explain why linear interpolation would or would not be appropriate for estimating values of y for values of x between 0.2 and 2 not given in the table.
