Name: Mohamed Kanaan Student no.: 208131765 Lab 1: Introduction to Electronic Instruments and Measurements The lab experiment we are about to perform helps us familiarize ourselves with the electronic instruments that will help us perform our future experiments with ease. Procedures taken in this experiment are necessarily important for measures purposes as well as to help build the techniques required for future experiments. The instruments used in this lab are as follows: - Agilent E3630A triple output DC power supply - Agilent 33120A Function/Arbitrary Waveform Generator - Agilent 34401A Digital Multi-m et er (DMM) - Tektronix TDS200 Digital Storag e Oscilloscope (DSO) The first instru m ent that we will b e discussing, a nd which is in great importance an usefulness, is the DSO. The DSO, in particular, will b e e ncountered in m a ny of the futur that we will be performing; therefore it is ess ential for us to g et familiar with this piece e quipm ent. The m ain purpose of this d evice is that it d eflects a signal or electron b e using electrically charged plates in the x and y direction. As for the knobs on the d ev h elp us adjust this signal accordingly. In this part of this experim ent we will n e ed to connect the DSO to the function g en erator. Using a BNC cable, one end will b e connected to Channel 1(CH1) of the DSO and the other end will b e connected to the function g en erator. Now that the connectio set, we will g en erate a sine wave with a frequency of 10KHz, a m plitude of 100 mV, an a DC offset of + 1 0 0 mV.

An illustration of the above procedure is very familiar to the image on the left. By adjusting the “sec/div” knob on the DSO, we should be able to show two complete cycles of the waveform on the monitor. The “sec/div” knob changes the scaling of the divisions on the x- axis, which allows us to manipulate the waveform to our desires. Using the menu of the CH1 we can adjust the settings of this signal accordingly.
