2-2 Journal Consumer Behavior and Drivers of Demand1.Was this a discretionary purchase? Explain. Most recently I had to purchase my mothers diabetes medication, and this was not a discretionarypurchase. The business dictionary defines discretionary purchase as “money spent by consumers on non-essential purchases such as vacations or luxury items”. Having to spend money on my mothers medication is not, to me, a non-essential purpose. For her to stay healthy and stay alive Imust continue to purchase this medication as long as she doesn’t have insurance to purchase it with. 2.Were you the primary or secondary consumer? In other words, were you the decision maker regarding the purchase, or did others influence you? When she first started on this medication, we were not the decision maker. There were really only two options she gets this medication or she won’t get better, she will get worse.3.How do healthcare consumers differ from other consumers when making purchase decisions? Describe at least three differences and use examples to illustrate.
