PS 106 10-03-2008 EXAM ADVICE To perform as well as possible in the exam, you need to keep a few things in mind: 1) As previously announced, the exam consists of three parts: multiple-choice, ID questions, and one essay question. We believe how to answer the multiple choice questions should be pretty clear: Find the correct answer! Regarding the IDs, we expect you to answer in a few sentences (3-5 sentences). That is to say, some IDs may require an answer of 5, may be 6, sentences whereas some can be answered in 2-3 sentences. In average, it should be 3-5 sentences for an ID. While answering, there are two points you should pay attention to: (1) what “it” is and (2) why “it” is important. Let’s suppose “ party discipline ” was one of the questions in this part… You would first be expected to explain what “ party discipline ” is – e.g. ‘the ability of a political party to get all of its members to support the policies of the party leadership’.
