Procedure for Lab 1 Task 1- Measuring resistors I. Using the code for resistor values, read, from left to right, the number values associated with each color band to determine the resistance each resistor is supposed to have. The formula for reading resistors is WX x 10^Y +/- Z, with W being the first band, X the second, Y the third, and Z referring to the tolerance of the resistor. The way to know which color relates to which numeral, the table for resistors relating a color to a value is used. II. Place the first resistor recorded in Table 1 in two nodes on the breadboard. Only one resistor is measured each time, because, if measured together, you would be measuring them in parallel. Their values are measured using both multimeters, the first being the DMM. Open the NI ELVIS program on the computer, and make sure the power is on for the NI ELVIS. Open the DMM from the instrument panel. Place one wire in the DMM Current + node and one in the DMM Current – node. Make sure all manual switches are off on the front of the unit. Put one wire in the node of one side of the resistor and the other into the other node with the resistor in it, and record the value in Table 1. Remove the wires from the NI ELVIS DMM.
