CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Unconscious Victim Adult AED Age Change (9 yrs Child (1 – 12 yrs) AED Age Change (1-8 yrs or < 55 lbs) Infant (<1 yr) No AED Size up the scene Gloves and consent Check for consciousness (“R U OK?”) “Call 911” If on stomach, roll over Check for signs of life (open airway; look, listen, and feel no more than 10 sec .) Give 2 rescue breaths (until chest clearly rises) IF Breaths DON”T GO IN: Reposition, 2 rescue breaths IF Breaths DON’T GO IN: Give 5 chest thrusts Center chest (2 hands) 1 ½ - 2 inches Center chest (1 or 2 hands) 1-1 ½ inches 2 or 3 fingers just below nipple line ½ - 1 inch Look for object in mouth (sweep only if visible) (use index finger) (use pinky finger) (use pinky finger) Give 2 rescue breaths: if BREATHS don’t go in then repeat IF BREATHS GO IN (chest rises): Check pulse up to10 sec. (look for severe bleeding) If PULSE, begin rescue breathing 1 breath : 5 sec. 1 breath : 3 sec. 1 breath : 3 sec.
