Topics to be covered include: recognizing an argument, identifying premises and conclusions of arguments, evaluating arguments, fallacies, deductive reasoning, formal symbolization of arguments, inductive reasoning, psychological factors influencing our reasoning, moral deliberation, scientific reasoning, how to interpret statistics, and how to assess the media. The course will help students read and analyze academic material more critically and also help students organize their own written work in order to produce more cogent arguments. TEXTS
