Mike Heaton Eng 121-001 Reney Lordidch 02 October 2009 Reading Questions 1) I think that Richard only began to feel shame after the incident with the teacher because he had never thought of himself as any different than anyone else until that day. I don’t think that he should feel ashamed of having no Dad and being on welfare because he has no control of that. The reason why he dose though is because the teacher rubbed it in his face in front of everyone and that made him feel different from them. 2) I think that Richard changed after that encounter with the wino because he knew that he had the money to help him but he just sat there and waited until the man was beat in front of him before he stepped in. I think that he learned to help people in need if you have the ability to. 3) I think that Orwell didn’t tell us the crime that the prisoner committed because to him it didn’t matter. All he was was a number. I think that it added to the story because it didn’t dehumanize him it just showed how he was just as human as everyone else. Just because
