SITUATION ANALYSIS2Executive SummaryCanadian Solar is a successful and reputable name in the solar industry with 19 years manufacturing solar photovoltaic modules and providing solar energy solutions across 160 countries. Their mission and vision are embodied by their slogan of “Making the difference to every life [they] touch.” They have a strong value proposition providing customers with top-notch products and confidence in their reliability and service. Politics, economic pressure to decrease reliance on other countries for energy needs and the growing unrest over the climate debate are feeding into the importance and relevance of the renewable energy industry and their substantial growth. However, there are some critical threats to their business for which they need to be mindful. Canadian Solar has a strong portfolio with their product and service offerings, however their sustainable competitive advantage in an industry where all competitor products ultimately accomplish the same goal should be their customer service and their ability to innovate and reduce costs through research and development. OverviewCanadian Solar Inc. was founded in 2001 and is the leading manufacturer of solar photovoltaic (PV) modules and provider of solar energy solutions. Headquartered in Guelph, Ontario, Canadian Solar owns “state-of-the-art manufacturing facilities in Canada, China, Brazil and South East Asia.” (Company Intro, n.d.) As of 2018, Canadian Solar has “delivered more than 36 GW of premium quality solar modules to customers in over 160 countries in the past 18 years.” (Company Intro, n.d.) In 2018, their annual revenue rose to $3.74 billion USD, up 10% from the $3.39 billion revenue in 2017. They have a “geographically diversified utility-scale solar power project pipeline around 13 GW in total” annual production making them “one of the

Canadian Solar has a very diverse workforce consisting of approximately 13,000 employees spread throughout the globe. They have locations in Canada, US, Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, India, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Singapore, South Africa, Korea, Spain, United ArabEmirates and the United Kingdom. They are committed to their employees by offering global opportunities and promising to “embrace individual differences regardless of culture, gender or religion” and rewarding results through career development and “challenging you to make a difference.” (Company Intro, n.d.) MissionMaking a difference is engrained in their mission and vision as an organization. “Canadian Solar is dedicated to changing the lives of all its customers for the better.
