The constitution today has been ratified and changed 27 times however the meaning of certain words has also changed over the course of history. Interesting changes in the Constitution is that of the changes in the meaning of words written in the original 1787 constitution. The phrase “the people” and its meaning has changed many times over history changed to later include representation towards minorities and women. However the most notable changes in the American government occurred in the US government’s structure set out in the 1787 documents. One of the earliest amendments and changes of the 1787 documents was 12 th amendment. This amendment changed how the vice president was elected. Originally presidents and vice presidents were elected simultaneously on one ballot by the electoral college. However, the 12 th amendment ratified in 1804 states that the vice president and president shall have separate ballots. This amendment did not have a direct major impact but it was only the second
