Buddhism d Explain the origins of Buddhism. Describe Buddhism’s theological foundations and spiritual practices. ASSIGNMENTS 1. Read Ch. 5, 6, & 8 in Living Religions . 2. Discussion Question 1 e Due Date: Day 2 [ Main ] forum E Post your response to this question: How did the childhood experiences of Siddhartha Guatama (Buddha) lead to his questioning of the spiritual practices of his time? According to the “Four Sights” legend, the gods arranged for him to see the “four sights” that his father had tried to hide from him (a bent old man, a sick person, a dead person, and a monk seeking eternal rather than temporal pleasure). At the age of twenty-nine Siddhartha renounced his wealth, left his wife and newborn son (whom he named “Rahul,” or “fetter”), shaved his head, and donned the coarse robe of a wandering ascetic. He was later said to have adopted a very difficult goal: finding the way of total liberation from suffering.
