It provides an overview of the law and our legal system, covering such topics as tort law, contract and sales law, negotiable instruments law, agency and employment law, business organizations and property law. Prerequisite: English 100. Text Miller, Roger Leroy and Jentz, Gaylord A., Fundamentals of Business Law: Excerpted Cases 2nd Edition , (South Western, Cengage Learning), 2010, 2007. Instructional Objectives Upon completion of this course, the student will be able to: Describe the sources of American law and the basic framework of the United States judicial system. Describe the basic legal requirements for various types of business contracts, including negotiable instruments and agency/employment relationships. Describe the various means for enforcing business contracts. Describe the advantages and disadvantages of various forms of business ownership such as sole proprietorship, partnership, and corporation. Describe basic legal concepts involving the ownership or possession of both real and personal property. Teaching Procedures The instructor will use a combination of lecture and group discussion to cover the instructional objectives and topics, and assign homework problems from the text to focus on key points. The
