Kearney/Foreign Policy: 1999-2000 was the first time a globalization measurement was created - Globalization index - Looked at countries that have decent amount of population and GDP o Economic integration: trade, direct investment o Personal contact: phone contact, travel o Technological connectivity o Political engagement Some treat globalization as a purely economic phenomenon - Levels of interstate trade and economic integration Technological revolution - Technophiles emphasize techno-revolution which reshapes the world Moving in the direction of the emergence of a super-state - Over time, number of state actors gets smaller and smaller o Teleological approach Homogenization of world culture (American culture) - Local resistance to such trends - Anti-globalization protests Is globalization just a buzzword to get an easy handle on complex phenomenon?
