What do the terms Prevalence and Incidence refer to? How are the terms “Prognosis” and “Course” used in describing abnormal behavior? Know the historical perspectives on abnormal behavior: Supernatural, Biological, and Psychological, as well as the Moral Therapy movement. What evidence supported the Biological approach? How did each perspective become more dominant or less dominant across time? Know Freud’s psychoanalytic approach (briefly), including Id, Ego, Superego, and the ways that these structures operate and interact. Know Carl Rogers and Abraham Maslow and their contributions in the Humanistic approach. Know the Behaviorists (Watson, Skinner, Wolpe) and their influence on understanding abnormal behavior, especially the notion that behavior is influenced by the environment. Chapter 2.
