Wade Supreme Court decision Established the right to have an abortion in the 1 st trimester 2 nd trimester abortions regulated by states 3 rd trimester abortions can be limited or banned by states, unless a women is at risk 1992 Supreme Court Decision Gave states the right to restrict abortions; Waiting periods, Mandatory counseling, Parental Consent, Public funding limitations Abortion in the U.S. 1.3 million abortions each year in the U.S. One of the most common surgical procedures Most performed in abortion clinics 54% of women used contraception Cross-Cultural Aspects of Abortion About 40% of worldwide pregnancies are unplanned o 20% are aborted 25% of countries restrict abortion
