UCF Physics: AST 5765/4762: (Advanced) Astronomical Data Analysis Fall 2009 Homework 1 Due Thursday 27 August 2009 Work: Become sufficiently familiar with Linux to do the assignment. Play around until you are com- fortable. See the handout for online resources. Problems to Hand In: Since we have not covered Python yet, the files to hand in are ordinary text files for this assignment, not .py program files. 1. (5 points) Make a file named 0-ast5765-< username >.log or 0-ast4762-< username >.log in your home (not homework) directory on the course machine. This is your AST 5765/4762 lab log. Make a dated log entry giving all the commands to do the online items in the prob- lems below. If you edit a file, make a comment saying what file you edited. Copy the log file into your homework directory after completing all other work on your assignment. Also, be sure you have removed editor backup files (ending in “˜”) and any files not called for in the assignment (such as an unedited version of the survey).

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
