Instructions for applets related to Chapter 3. First applet: This applet shows you some info about Kepler's laws. At the bottom left are tabs -- start with Kepler's 1st Law. At the top right is a pull-down menu for the planets as well as slider bars. You can choose a planet and hit OK, or just slide the slider bars to play with the eccentricity. In fact you should probably play with the eccentricity slider bar especially, to get a sense of what high and low eccentricities mean vis-a-vis the shape of the orbit. (Low eccentricity means a more nearly circular orbit.) The 'semimajor axis' slider bar changes the overall scale of the orbit -- makes it bigger or smaller -- but doesn't change the elongatedness. If you want, hit the 'start animation' button on the right side. You can adjust the slider bar to change the speed. You should see how a planet on an elongated orbit moves faster when it's closer to the Sun and slower when it's farther. Now go to the bottom left and click on Kepler's 2nd Law. Now you can
