EE114 Autumn 08/09 R. Dutton, B. Murmann Page 1 of 2 HOMEWORK #2 (Due: Friday, October 10, 2008, noon PT) 1. Read the “CAD Basics” document available on the course website and set up your simulation environment. Run the HSpice simulation example “example_iv.sp” and submit a plot showing the drain current of the MOSFET MN1. 2. Consider the common source amplifier with resistive source degeneration shown on slide 3 of lecture 4. Draw the small-signal model of this circuit and show that v o /v i = -g m R 2 /(1+g m R 1 ). 3. Calculate the operating point of the common source amplifier with resistive source degeneration shown on slide 3 of lecture 4. As explained in the lecture notes, the MOSFET operates in the triode region, and therefore the triode-IV expression must be used in the calculation. Your answer should match the Spice output on slide 7. 4. Sketch V out as a function of V in for the following circuit as V in varies from 0 to V DD = 5V. Assume V t = 0.5V. (No need to do any calculations or simulations, simply draw a qualitative graph and mark pertinent breakpoints based on the given voltages).
