Two different tables of data were given and it had to be determined which polymer went with which table. After analyzing the spectra, it was determined that polymer A was polyvinyl methyl ether and polymer B was polystyrene. Description of Materials and Equipment: Bio-rad FTIR 7000S Spectrometer Polyvinyl methyl ether Polystyrene Experimental Procedures: 1 1. The polymer was made into a film to be analyzed by the infrared spectrometer. 2. Place sample into infrared spectrometer. 3. Close lid while the sample chamber is purged of Carbon Dioxide. 4. Press “SCAN” button on computer.
