Jordan R. Bush PTFE 2200 Experiment Performed: 03/28/2006 Measuring Flexural and Bending Rigidity of Fabrics and Films Abstract: In this experiment, two tests were performed on the cotton fabric. First, a Cantilever Testing Method was applied to determine the flexural rigidity of a strip of cotton fabric. In the second experiment, the KES Pure Bending Test was applied to determine the resistance of bending deformation and bending rigidity. Materials/Equipment: Cantilever Test Method o Strip of fabric KES Test Method Experimental Procedures/Parameters: Cantilever Test Method o 2.5cm by 15 cm strip of cotton fabric KES o Kawabata Evaluation System- Pure Bending Tester o 20 cm by 20cm piece of cotton fabric Results and Discussion: The Cantilever Testing Method uses the principle of a cantilever bending the fabric under its own mass to determine the flexural rigidity of fabrics/films.
