Eli Lilly and Company Colonel Eli Lilly founded Eli Lilly and Company in 1876. The company was started in 1940’s with just $1400 and four employees. Between 1940 and 1985 the company grew to become one of the largest pharmaceutical in the United States. Over years Eli Lilly discovered , developed, manufactured and sold a broad line of human health and agricultural products. Eli Lilly International Corporation, with responsibility for worldwide marketing of all its products took an active role in expanding the OUS(outside united states operations). By 1992, Eli Lilly manufactured and distributed through 25 countries and sold in more than 130 countries. Lilly International was headed by Sidney Taurel and Gerhard Mayr. Ranbaxy Laboratories  Ranbaxy began in 1960’s as a family business but with a visionary management Ranbaxy grew rapidly to become the second largest pharmaceutical in India after the Glaxo. Dr.Parvinder Singh, held a doctoral degree from the university of Michigan, under his leadership Ranbaxy evolved to be a serious search oriented firm . Singh rose to become the joint managing director in 1977 and managing director in 1982 and vice chairman and managing director in 1987. In the 1990’s Ranbaxy grew to become India’s largest manufacturer of bulk drugs and generic drugs, with a domestic share market of 15 percent. Ranbaxy had presence in 47 markets outside Indian market.
