Introduction to PH (HLTH 202) Fall 2008 Prof. Welsh Ethics and Public Health Sciences Mini-assignment #6 Due Date: Last day of class, Friday December 5 th The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to a) identify current ethical issues in public health, b) consider ethical issues you may encounter in your future profession, and c) create a professional ethics statement to guide you as you deal with professional ethical challenges. The requirements for this assignment are as follows: 1. Clearly describe, in your own words, 4 ethical issues that exist within the US Public Health Care system a. Based on the following readings (1 ethical issue from each area): i. Pg 93-96 epidemiology, ii. pg 208-211 genetic diseases, iii. pg 441-445 medical care & iv. pg 445-446 medical resource allocation Note: Be clear and brief ( quality !!) 2. State a job title/profession you hope to have in the future (i.e. Physical therapist, health educator, pediatrician, pharmaceutical sales, personal trainer, health care system administrator, etc) 3.
