Sample Questions Exam 1 BIO 370 BRING A PEN TO THE EXAM. The exam will be composed primarily of short answer questions, including definitions of terms. A small portion of the exam will be multiple choice. These sample questions are not meant to comprehensively cover all subjects which could be on the exam. The exam could have questions on any of the concepts covered in lectures and discussions. 1. What was the greatest shortcoming of Darwin’s theory of evolution by natural selection? 2. Define convergence. Does the occurrence of convergence provide support for evolution? How? 3. In what circumstances could one observe strong natural selection yet observe no evolution? 4. Does evolution occur in populations or individuals? Explain. 5. What is the difference between directional and stabilizing selection? 6. Do mutations occur at random? Explain your answer. 7. Define evolution. 8. Define natural selection.
