11/4/08 Bio 349 Review Thursday November 6 th 5-8 pm PHR 2.114 Office hour Friday 3-5 Monday 1-3 Recap of MicroRNAs RNA interference Development of the vulva Graded morphogen Sequential signaling Morphogenesis Cell Adhesion Lin-14 is required for the particular linage in the T cell line to occur normally When you loose lin-14 you basically loose the early development stage Lin-4 encodes a small RNA You can use RNA interference to knock out gene expression of any gene you choose Formation of the vulva The vulva is formed during the 4 th larval molt Formed from vulva precursor cells (P3p, P4p, P5p, P6p, P7p, P8p) P3p and P4p= epidermis P5p, P6p, and P7p= vulva P8p= epidermis Anchor cell is not apart of this group The cell under the anchor cell always adopts a primary vulva fate In absence of anchor cell you don’t get the primary fate or secondary fate but get a tertiary fate When moved more anterior the tertiary cell develops as a primary
