StatLab4a: Independent Samples T-test : testing difference between 2 groups 1. Open the SPSS program 2. A researcher is interested in the effects of sleep deprivation on a physical fitness. The control group was allowed a regular amount of sleep (i.e., 7 hrs) and the experimental group was deprived of sleep for 24 hrs. At the end of the 24 hrs. period both groups received a physical stamina test. The results of the test are listed below. Do the data indicate a significant effect of sleep deprivation on physical fitness? Assume p< .05, two-tail test. Control group (i.e., 7 hrs of sleep): 11, 8, 10, 12, 13, 9, 14, 9, 9, 13 Experimental group (i.e., 24 hrs sleep deprivation): 5, 9, 8, 9, 6, 12, 7, 6, 10, 9 3. Set up the data set; your data set consists of two variables: Grouping variable with codes indicating what condition (i.e., control or experimental) is associated with each test score; assume that Control group=1 and Experimental group=2 Dependent variable (i.e., Test scores) After entering all results your data set should look like the one below;
