Mass of limonene: 1.66g b. Refractive index: 1.4725 at 20 °C c. Specific Rotation: = α /l x c = 16.9/1dm x 0.8402g/mL = +/-20.11° d. Optical Purity: % ee = ([α]observed / [α]pure) x 100 = (20.11° / +125.6°) = 0.1601 x 100 = 16.0% e. Br 2 test results: Br 2 (in dichloromethane) TT 1 (4 drops limonene+1mL Ethanol) : 12 drops for reaction; pale yellow color TT 2 (Control - 1mL ethanol) : 3 drops needed; red color indicating no reaction with limonene f. KMnO 4 test results: TT 3 (4 drops limonene+1mL Ethanol) : Brown color observed (the precipitated manganese dioxide) indicating reaction with limonene TT 4 (Control - 1mL ethanol) : Purple color indicating no reaction with limonene
