ECE 329 Homework 14 Due: Wed, May 6, 2008, 5PM 1. A T.L. with characteristic impedance Z o = 50 Ω and length l = 0 . 2 λ has a short termination at d = 0 and a 50 Ω resistor connected between the T.L. conductors (a “shunt” connection) at d = 0 . 1 λ . a) Use a S.C. in order to determine the input impedance of the line at the generator end, i.e., Z ( l ) Hint: first move by 0 . 1 λ from load the toward generator on the S.C., read o ff the corresponding Z ( d ) , combine it in parallel with the shunt resistance; then go back onto the S.C. with the normalized combined impedance, and move another 0 . 1 λ toward the generator. Hand in your marked S.C. b) Re-do part (a) working in terms of admittances, by first reflecting the normalized impedance point z (0) on the S.C. across the origin in order to locate y (0) and then rotate by 0 . 1 λ to read y (0 . 1 λ ) directly o ff the S.C. The advantage of this approach is that y (0 . 1 λ ) combines with the normalized shunt admittance additively! At the end you go back from y ( l ) to z ( l ) by reflecting across the origin once again. Hand in your marked S.C.
