It offers an overview of the discipline with a particular focus on “American” society past and present. There are a number of objectives in this course; they are as follows: 1. To teach you what it means to think “sociologically.” 2. To impart factual information about the social institutions of modern societies. . 3. To stimulate creative and critical thought about our “taken for granted” assumptions regarding our social world. Hopefully we’ll finish the quarter with a broader and deeper understanding of this thing called “society” and its impact on our everyday lives. REQUIRED TEXTS
