This metaphor refers to women’s participation in the workforce in that there are many more professional women today than there were in years past, but the progression is not as high or as much as had been projected. This is because women take time of the labor force and they earn less money which makes their career paths “slow down” in a sense because these setbacks are “leaks” in the career “pipeline” b. What are the consequences of the leaky pipeline for employees and employers? For employees, many loose their jobs or degrade in careers because it is not as simple as taking time off and coming straight back to the level you left at. For employers, they are facing a problem where many of their women employees are quitting and leaving their jobs in order to take care of the family; this really hurts the companies functions 2. What does Stone mean when she says that her research reveals ‘not the expression of choice, but rather the existence of a choice gap (pg. 19)?’ this means that women’s choice to leave the workplace is sometimes their only choice because of the lack of support that they receive from society as a whole for becoming mothers; therefore,
