People highly value family structure and values, but they are aware of the diversity in families that is present in today’s world 2. a. What does Cherlin believe are the two most fundamental ways the family has changed? 1) lessened economic dependence of women 2) The weakening of marriage b. Do you agree that these are the most important changes? Why or why not? I believe that these are the two major changes because both of these things affect the roles that people play in marriage which is the reason the family has changed so much in the first place 3. Briefly explain changes in the following. a. Behavior- in the past, rules dominated people’s lives, but now, people can change and alter rules to fit their lifestyles b. Lifestyle choices- in the past, some lifestyle choices were restricted where as in today, people are forced to make decisions on every aspect of their lives
