451 Market Insight Service 26 OCT 2009 Copyright 2009 The 451 Group Page 1 of 2 Analyst: Steve Coplan Event summary CA Identity Manager 12.5 integrates the functionality from the November 2008 purchase of Eurekify into 'Smart Provisioning' workflow capabilities to apply analytics and policy checking to the process of assigning entitlements and role attributes. This real-time integration of CA's provisioning and role management technology is intended to facilitate an iterative administrative and analytics process that gets CA closer to delivering on the full promise of identity lifecycle management. CA Identity Manager 12.5 will also support integration with CA Enterprise Log Manager and newly launched Unix Authentication Broker, which is a precursor to privileged-user role management. The 451 take Role has gained more prominence in the evolution of identity management as a construct to facilitate automated policy management. CA is not necessarily taking a philosophical stand on the definition of a role or how to articulate an attribute in business terms and encapsulate it in a standardized expression. Instead, its approach is driven by the pragmatic requirement to 'de-silo' the provisioning process and contextualize the association of an access entitlement with a user and organizational or functional facets of their identity.
