PHY 352 Review Short Answers What is abnormal behavior? How is it distinguished from normal behavior? -not just a behavior that is abnormal; focus on how the behavior gets in the way, affects the persons’ life Describe the DSM (what is it? Who uses it? What is it used for? How is it developed?) In addition to symptom criteria, what other criteria must be met in order to warrant a DSM disagnosis? - criteria outside Cultural context -age requirements -interference/distress required for a diagnosis What is the Biopsychosocial model, and how does this model assist with the conceptualization of abnormal behavior? -break down the levels of analysis (if u focus only on one level u will miss a lot) In integrative definitions of abnormality, three perspectives are considered. What are they? Under deinstitutionalization -revolving door Define/discuss projective assessment -give definition and some examples (ie Rochack) What is the central construct of the Psychoanalytic theory? -Oppressed sexual and aggressive urges.
