PSY352 S09 FINAL EXAM PREP - POSSIBLE ESSAY QUESTIONS - NEW Everyone will write two essays (25 points each). I will give you two sets of essay questions, and you will choose one question from each set. There will be at least three questions in each set of choices. BOLD… QUESTIONS in BOLD are those for which I have been developing grading criteria. This is tentative – this is no guarantee that these questions will end up on the exam (if I don’t like the criteria, or I end up with too many choices, or…), and I could still choose others (from the questions left PLAIN at this point). This is just a little glimpse into my thinking at this time. CROSSED OUT … QUESTIONS that have been crossed out will NOT be on the exam. This is definitive; I have ruled them out as items to develop grading criteria for. ITALICS … QUESTIONS that have been italicized are ones I’m currently thinking will end up being incorporated into multiple-choice questions instead of essay questions. We’ll see. PLAIN… QUESTIONS left in plain text are ones I’m still thinking about. No telling where they’ll end up yet, sorry. Here we go… 1. The diagnostic criteria for many DSM disorders are different for children than for adults. Give three specific examples of this, providing the disorder and the way(s) in which the criteria for that disorder for children differ from the criteria for that disorder for adults. 2. The diagnostic criteria for several DSM disorders are better suited to some groups of affected persons than other groups of affected persons. Give an example of this. Describe the disorder, the affected groups, and the specifics of how the DSM criteria are more appropriate for one of these groups than the other. 3. The diagnostic criteria for several DSM disorders are better suited to some groups of affected persons than other groups of affected persons. How does this happen? Describe common reasons or mechanisms by which the developed diagnostic criteria for particular disorders better represent some groups than others. 4.
