Chinese Astrology Teacher Day Time Branch TA Class Title: Chinese Astrology Resources needed: Beliefs and superstitions examples Animals – What people think of them article 12 animal signs (with simple description and table) 4 elements handout (with simple description and table) Different types of astrology handout Markers Aim: Ss will familiarize themselves with believes/superstitions. Stage: Introduction Page: Time: 3-5 minutes Method: Chinese Beliefs/ Superstitions Teacher what kinds of beliefs do Chinese people have? Teacher will write down categories Teacher will divide Ss into groups Teacher will assign a category to each group. Ss will discuss what types of beliefs they have. Teacher will call on Ss for examples Comments Aim: Ss will further familiarize themselves with believes/superstitions. Stage: Practice Page: Time: 4-6 minutes Method: Teacher will ask Ss what Chinese Astrology is. Ss will respond with answers. Teacher will write items on the board. Teacher will ask what Chinese Astrology includes. Ss will provide examples. Comments Aim: Ss will learn what kinds of beliefs/superstitions there are Stage: Production Page: Time: 3-5 minutes Method: Beliefs from different countries Teacher will give out hand out Teacher will ask Ss to guess where each one is from. Ss will answer if they know. Teacher will ask them to form groups Ss will work in groups

Comments Aim: Check Ss comprehension of beliefs/superstitions. Stage: CCQ Page: Time: 2-4 minutes Method: Beliefs from different countries questions Teacher will ask Ss for answers. Ss will guess where each one is from. Teacher will give Ss answers if incorrect. Teacher will have Ss turn to the 2 nd page (12 signs descriptions) Ss will read over information. Comments Aim: Ss will further familiarize themselves with 12 animal signs Stage: Practice Page: Time: 4-6 minutes Method: 12 animal signs Charades (with noises) Teacher will call up Ss (individually) Teacher will model for Ss Teacher will tell Ss what animal they must act out (can do noises) Ss will guess what animal it is. Teacher will call up 12 individuals in total. Comments Aim: Ss will learn the 12 animal signs. Stage: Production Page: Time: 3-5 minutes Method: Do you think your animal sign matches you? Teacher will ask Ss if they think they think their animal sign matches them. Teacher will divide Ss into groups
