Resources needed: prints of handouts New vocabulary: masculine, feminine, male, female, sex, gender, gender identity, gender role, bread-winner, home-maker Aim: Ss will be in an English-speaking mood, know more about T Stage: Warm-up Page: Time: 5-7 Total: Method: T introduces self: name, country, hobbies, etc. Ss can Q&A a bit to warm up English, build rapport Comments Aim: Ss will be in a curious mood - generate interest/discussion about sex/gender Stage: Intro Page: Time: 7-10 Total: Method: T: “I didn't mention if I was male or female; which do you think I am?” Ss will say the obvious. T replies, “How did you know?” (sound of voice, clothing, physique, etc.) Write these on one side of board. “Can you always guess if someone is a male or a female?” “Have you ever been surprised to find out you guessed wrong?” “How'd you feel?” Comments Aim: Ss will learn and practice new vocab: male, female, sex (noun) Stage: Practice Page: Time: 3-5 Total: Method: T writes “sex” in big letters on board. This should get Ss' attention. After explaining that you mean the noun, and not the verb, draw two lines from “sex” and write “male” and “female” underneath.
