Music Teacher Day Time Branch TA Class Resources needed: Hi-fi and some CD’s of various music styles (Jazz, Hip-hop etc) Aim: SWBAT have a introductory value of the use of similes and metaphors while creating not realizing the usage of a music style (Rap) Stage: Warm up Page: Time: 7-10 mins Method: Hip-hop S & M’s Play a CD of some examples of similes and metaphors for s/s Define similes and metaphors - explain how they are similar and how they’re different Give examples of similes and metaphors in everyday English Ask s/s to spend a few minutes discusses the topic Comments Aim: SWBAT begin to physically indentify the use of similes and metaphors Stage: Practice Page: Time: 7-10 mins Method: Rap creation Have s/s split up into groups Have s/s make their own “rap” songs that use similes and metaphors Songs can be about anything s/s choose Songs must be 12 lines long minimum and have "made up" similes and metaphors Make sure each student follows the directions Songs must follow a rhyming scheme Each group of s/s will then present their songs to the class Comments Aim: SWBAT now start seeing how to differentiate between simile and metaphor Stage: Practice Page: Time: 7-10 mins Method: Small two-part matching quiz on the left side of a page, write the first half of popular similes and metaphors with an answer place and question number before them (i.e. "________ 1. Happy as . ..") on the right hand side, write the remaining bits of the similes and metaphors with answer letters in front of them in a random order (e.g. A. "a clam") Have s/s match letters w/ numbers student must work out if the answer is a simile or metaphor by marking it either an "S" or a "M" Comments Stage: Present Page: Aim: SWBAT “connect” w/ the music style that has just been introduced (rap)
