Oceans Teacher Day Time Branch TA Class 1/12 Resources needed: Handouts Game for fun (5-10 mins.) Aim: By the end of this stage will be introduced to the topic of oceans and ocean life. Stage: Warm-Up Page: Time: 3-4 min Method: Vocalise / Personalise T to introduce the topic of oceans using some current news article or by inventing a story. T to gauge Ss understanding of topic by extracting names of oceans. T to provide map & statistics and discuss with Ss. T to facilitate input re marine life, whales, sharks, seahorses, coral, plankton, etc Comments Aim: By the end of this stage teacher will have identified any issues, unfamiliar word/grammar and students will have a better understanding of these. Stage: Pre-teach Page: Time: 3-4 min Method: Board work & Vocalising Any issues, words or grammar points bought up in the last stage to be written on the board and explained/discussed Comments Should not be (too m) any – very simple text. Aim: By the end of this stage students will be able to talk about oceans/ marine life. Stage: Practice Page: Time: 6-8 min Method: Paired Discussions T to handout scrap paper and instruct Ss in pairs to discuss and write down any/all marine life they can. Ss to tell what they know about the marine creatures listed. Whale – big, 2 eyes, eats fish, Micro-organisms - tiny, single cells Class discussion with animals/characteristics written on W/B. Comments Aim: By the end of this stage students will be to discuss the characteristics of an imaginary creature. Stage: Practice Page: Time: 7-8 min Method: Group Work T to split class into groups of 4-8 depending on numbers T to provide handout 2 S to read for 2 minutes and ask Qs Groups have 5 minutes to discuss and prepare “live feed” with CASA (T) Pictures of creature for Presentation to be encouraged S made aware by handout ( & verbal prompts from T) that their answers must be comprehensive Comments
