Stage: Present/ Introduction Page: Time: 7-9 min Method: Presentation of topic ambitions Teacher elicits students understanding of the concept of ambitions by giving and asking for examples. Teacher writes sub-topics of personal, financial, work, family and real/unreal ambitions. Teacher elicits examples of each type from the students. Comments Aim: SWBAT practice reading and speaking with a text. Stage: Practice Page: Time: 12-14 min Method: Reading activity related to ambitions Students are given a text. Students are asked for unfamiliar/unknown words. E.g. attend, hang out, video games, extra, relaxing. CCQs Check comprehension of difficult words. E.g. Tell me the name of a video game. Which is relaxing, taking exams, or watching tv? Students read through the text once and must then answer questions. Teacher gets the answers from the students. Students read through the text and are then given more general questions with teacher asking questions about what the students think of the text. Handout A Comments Aim: SWBAT practice speaking about work ambitions. Stage: Practice Page: Time: 6-8 min Method: Career advisor role play The students are arranged in pairs. One student is given the role of a career advisor and one is being advised. The students must write a conversation involving one person talking about them self and the other listening and responding.
