WillExcelTESOL.com 3 Will-Excel TESOL Institute’s Master of TESOL The Will-Excel Institute’s Master of TESOL is the highest level diploma available to educators within the TESOL field. The program aims to prepare educators to succeed in competitive markets and for promotion within educational institutions. Holders of the Master of TESOL Diploma go on to become Curriculum Developers, Teacher Trainers, Directors of Studies, and School Owners. T O QUALIFY FOR ADMISSION TO THE M ASTER S PROGRAM , TEACHERS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA : Completion of the Will-Excel TESOL Diploma program Completion of an approved TESOL course and have at least one year of teaching experience Completion of at least two years of teaching experience and have a letter of recommendation from a school where they were recently employed. These applicants must also pass a test on introductory TESOL theory. All Master’s programs require a great deal of independent study. In order to complete our Master of TESOL program over a 12 month period, candidates will need to spend at least 10 hours per week reading course materials, completing assignments, and writing essays that incorporate course theory with personal teaching experience. C OURSE C ONTENT Theoretical Linguistics The principles of the scientific study of language. Historical Linguistics The evolution of the English language. Sociolinguistics How language and culture influence each other. The Linguistic Study of Bilingualism Theories and case studies regarding bilingualism. Second Language Acquisition The process of learning foreign languages. Principles, Methodology and Pedagogy of Language Learning and Teaching Current theories and discourse regarding teaching English to speakers of other languages. Multiculturalism in the classroom Topics cover cultural sensitivity and management in multicultural classrooms and environments Advanced Grammar for Master of TESOL Advanced grammar topics. School Management and Leadership Business principles as they relate to successful school management. Master’s Thesis
