Biology 102 Syllabus FALL 2009 1 COURSEOBJECTIVES:ThiscourseisdesignedtoprovideaBROADoverviewofbiologicaltopicsand todiscussrelevantscientificresearchtoenablestudentstomakeinformeddecisionsabout sciencerelatedpersonalandsocialissues.Wewillexplorescientifictopicsandquestionsmainly throughlecturesandwithhandsonactivitiesorsmallgroupdiscussionswhenpossible.Itismy goalthatstudentsleavethiscoursewithanincreasedappreciationandinterestforournatural worldandscientificfieldsofstudy. ATTENDANCEandPARTICIPATION: LectureStudentsarestronglyencouragedtoattendalllecturesasanymaterialdiscussedor presentedmayappearonexaminations.Inaddition,studentswillperiodicallydiscussissues and/orquestionspresentedbythelecturerorviewvideosthatwillonlybemadeavailableduring lecture. LaboratoryStudentsmustattendthefirstweekofscheduledlaboratories(weekofAugust31st), ortheywillautomaticallybedroppedtoaccommodatestudentsonthewaitlistforthiscourse.
