AP Essay Review Read the sample essays for two of the three years noted below and grade them using the rubric that is included with the sample essay; include notes about each essay’s strengths and weaknesses. 2017 Argument Score: _/9 points Strengths Weaknesses 3A 8/9 Introduces the topic being discussed and clearly states their position in the argument. Uses modern events as evidence and also explains how they support her claim. Some of the sentences seemed a bit repetitive, maybe because the author used the same words. (Thus, enormous role…) 3B 6/9 In the beginning, the author states their position on the topic. Uses different kinds of evidence (Politics, literature). Author uses transition phrases at the beginning each paragraph. The claim could have been worded in a more sophisticated manner, and the introduction felt too short to adequately shift to the topic. The evidence the author chose seemed to veer off a little from what they mentioned in their thesis.
