Eduardo Ruiz Mrs. Tatala English IV Period 4 27 February 2020 Socratic Seminar 1. What are the human consequences of the collision between two cultures? Describe both the societal and personal clashes. Think about the European’s imposing of their cultural norms, values, and laws on the Igbo. There are so many consequences that happen when two cultures clash, and the worst part is that two cultures can not coexist, there has to be one dominant. The perfect example is how the white culture affected the cultures of people of color. - One consequence is the struggle of cultural identity. Chicanos/as are children whose parents have immigrated from a latin american country to the United States. These children grow up with two drastically different cultures. Though this may not seem like much of a struggle, it creates this cultural struggle of not fully being one cultural. There is a poem called “I am Chicana” and in this poem the writer talks about how growing up she did not know who she was. “I was too white for Mexicans...And too brown for Americans” ( I Am Chicana ). She describes it as almost like a battle and she is in the middle trying to pick a side. - Another consequence is a loss of history. The term African American is used because after the Europeans brought slaves to the States, there no record of which slave was brought from what country so when those slaves had children, those children and the children of those children, had no record of their history. Also with assimilation, there
