Chemistry 1C, Course Code 40120, Summer Session II, 2009, Dr. Shaka Chemistry 1C, Summer Session II 2009 Course : Chemistry 1C, General Chemistry, Course Code 40120 MWF 9:00-10:50 am, Physical Sciences Lecture Hall (100) August 3, 2009 to September 9, 2009 Instructor : Professor A. J. Shaka Office : Natural Sciences Building I, Room 4134 Head TA : Torri Catalano Textbook : Chemistry: Structure and Dynamics , by Spencer, Bodner, and Rickard, Wiley Custom Services, 4 th Ed., 2009, ISBN 978-0-470-89974-8. You may well be able to obtain a used copy of this book if you do not have it. Find out. (It is not a good book in my opinion.) E-mail : padajshakalock@uci.edu (Remove padlock to e-mail) padtcatalanlock@uci.edu (Remove padlock to e-mail) Please send all administrative, scheduling or bureaucratic questions to the UCI Summer Session Staff. Ask any chemistry questions during Discussion, or Lecture. Avoid sending us direct e-mail : with hundreds of students it may not always be possible to answer your e-mail promptly or, in some cases, at all. If it’s important, just ask in person: it’s quicker and we can make sure you understand whatever-it- is. General up-to-date information about the class will be posted on the What’s New? web page linked to this site. Course Web Site : eee.uci.edu/09z/40120/ Check our course web site often for announcements, “handouts” and other information. Be sure to “refresh” your page if your browser caches web pages, so that you’ll get the up-to-date copy. I will use the What’s New? web page to communicate with the class. Check it regularly around exam times. Exams Short Quiz (5x10 pts) Each Friday, at the end of lecture except for Friday 9/4 That week the quiz will be on Wednesday, Sept 2, 2009 Midterm I (125 pts) Monday, August 17, 2009 Midterm II (125 pts) Monday, August 31, 2009 Final (200 pts) Wednesday, September 9, 2009 Discussion Times and Places Mon 11:00-11:50 am Humanities Hall Rm 262 (Discussion B1, 40121) Tue 12:00-12:50 am Humanities Hall Rm 262 (Discussion B2, 40122) Wed 11:00-11:50 am Humanities Hall Rm 262 (Discussion B3, 40123) Th 12:00-12:50 am Humanities Hall Rm 262 (Discussion B4, 40124) Fri 11:00-11:50 am Humanities Hall Rm 262 (Discussion B5, 40125) Course Policy The course add and drop policy statements are available online at www.summer.uci.edu. All “adds” and “drops” must be processed through Summer Session. Please refer to the summer session web site for any general information of this type, including important deadlines and contact information. You may not attend class unless you are properly enrolled and have paid fees: unfortunately, no auditing is allowed. If you take this course you are making a significant time commitment. Make sure that you have enough time to take the course, and that you will not miss lectures. A vacation, wedding, etc. during this time is not a good idea , and will make your experience both hectic and possibly disappointing. It would be better to skip this course if you have other major commitments to keep.
