In that span of time, higher computer performance, lower technology cost, and advances in optics research have made them more accessible to a wider range of users and applications. InSpeck was founded in 1994 and since then, the company has commercialized a variety of 3D hardware and software that focus on capturing 3D shapes (and texture) of free-form subjects, like humans for example. After initially having focused on the entertainment industry, the next logical step for the company was to bring our ability to scan humans to the medical industry. Soon after that realization came the Footshape--a 3D solution custom-built for the orthotics industry--and the BFD 1300--the only 3D medical imaging system dedicated to plastic surgery available today.
