The University of California at Los Angeles Statistics 10: Introduction to Statistical Reasoning Sugano – MF 5-6:30 Kinsey Pavilion 1220B Course Syllabus The Four Major Themes of Statistics Exploring Data – tables, graphs, summary measures Producing Data – observational studies and experiments Probability – the mathematical foundation of chance processes Inferential Statistics – confidence intervals and hypotheses tests Materials Our required text is Intro Stats by De Veaux, Velleman, and Bock, 3rd Edition, 2009. There is no course reader. We will use Fathom software for our labs but there is no need to purchase Fathom as it will be available to you in our Statistics Computing Lab (Boelter 9413). Grading Policy You are expected to attend all lectures, group labs, and discussion sections; to work the examples and exercises in the text, and to complete weekly homework assignments, labs, quizzes, as well as a midterm and a final exam. Late work will not be accepted. There will be no opportunity for make-up quizzes or exams. At the end of the quarter, your lowest homework, lab, and quiz grade
