Backhand Backhand • The right-handled player must use the backhand on the left side, and the left-handed on the right side. • The backhand requires the opposite from the forehand. The mechanics are the same on both sides, but the motions are opposite. A. Assume ready position. B. Face the side wall, the opposite side you face while using the forehand. You can use forward pivot or backstep pivot to move your feet. C. Take the racquet and make a U with the racquet as one side of the U, the forearm as the bottom, and the upper arm as the other side. D. Rest the U, or you arm and racquet form, against your chest. Then, extend the U away from your body about 6 inches by moving the forearm away from your chest.
