As result of the class the student will improve his/her general physical fitness and skill performance while learning how to honor his/her body. Principles, techniques, and safe practices of yoga will be taught throughout the class. Relationship to Other Courses This is a basic activity course in the Sport, Fitness, and Health Program. It is open to any student at The Ohio State University. There are no prerequisites for this course. Course Objectives 1. The student will demonstrate appropriate level competence in the following skills: - Standing Poses - Sitting Poses - Supine or lying down Poses - Balancing poses - Sun salutation 2. The student will: - Learn the importance and techniques of yoga Breathing. - Explore relaxation and meditative postures. - Develop awareness of the body, mind & spirit 1

Off Campus Field Experience This course does not have an off-campus field experience. Diversity The curriculum and experience is designed, implemented, and evaluated in a manner that promotes the acquisition and application of knowledge, skills, and dispositions necessary to help all students learn. Technology The use of web technology will be employed in this course for the dissemination of course materials such as syllabus, handouts and course notes. Additional means of communication between the instructor and students is available through the use of web- based email. Topical Outline Class 1: Introduction to yoga, syllabus, safety issues, & final project. Class 2: Asana Practice: Opening the Body – Introduction to stretching routine, basic yoga asanas. Breathing and meditation exercises.
